Back in May we published a a blog post about the debut of the Land Rover All-Terrain Electric Research Vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show. Well since then, this shocking concept has been put to work at the Eden Project in Cornwall, UK transporting passengers and testing out new Land Rover parts.
The Eden project is an environmental sanctuary that features bio-domes and gardens that are a destination for children and parents where they can learn about environmental conservation and eco-ethics. The Land Rover All-Terrain Electric Research Vehicle has been employed by the staff of the Eden center to pull a four-carriage road train all around the park delivering guests to multiple destinations.
If you remember, the research vehicle was built with a large electric motor and a big lithium-ion battery. Well since this special Land Rover model has been at the Eden project, engineers have tinkered with it and added a second batter to help improve the SUV's range. The motor is limited to just 94 horsepower but when it comes to torque, it can deliver 243 pound-feet. This makes it the ultimate vehicle for hauling a series of carts that weigh several tons at slow speeds.
This model is now being outfitted with a special braking system that will allow the electric engine to regain some power as the car naturally rolls down a hill. We suspect that more test like this will continue to take place so long as the All-Terrain Electric Research Vehicle remains at the Eden Project.
