The Land Rover Defender is a model we aren't all too familiar with in the Birmingham area. That's because the all-wheel drive off-road utility vehicle is exclusively available at dealerships in the United Kingdom.

Across the pond, the Defender is very popular among British drivers. The vehicle redefines "utility," with unrivaled practicality, supreme carrying capabilities, and a potent 2.2-liter diesel engine. We had a taste of the Defender back in the '90's, but we've been left wanting more since Land Rover axed it from U.S. dealerships' lineups.

According to sources, stateside drivers may get some satisfaction as soon as 2016, with special Land Rover Defender variant designed with the U.S. in mind.

Land Rover is reportedly planning on launching a pickup version of the Defender, which is expected to compete with models like the Volkswagen Amarok-- another vehicle planning on make its U.S. debut very soon.

Sources claim the Defender pickup will retain the luxurious allure associated with Land Rover, but will be rough, tough, and rugged as well. We can anticipate a five-seat crew cab model, with permanent all-wheel drive. Just like the original Defender, this variant will surely be a pro at trekking the unpaved paths.

What's more exciting is Land Rover has divulged that this take on the Defender won't skimp on the qualities that the model is praised for. That means customers to our dealership in Irondale, AL will get to enjoy the same amazing features that British drivers are already head over heels for.

Stay tuned to our blog for more updates about the Defender pickup journey to join the new Land Rover lineup featured at our dealership, Land Rover Birmingham.
