Land Rover enthusiasts know that our favorite British automaker is a favorite amongst the rich and famous. One look at the entertainment news online, and you are sure to see some actor or musician cruising around in their new Land Rover. This is not a recent development either. Recently we heard a news story here at Land Rover Birmingham about a Land Rover that belonged to none other than Bob Marley, the world famous reggae star.
Since Marley's death, his 1877 Series III Land Rover Defender has been sitting in the elements in Jamaica wasting away. Now a collaboration between Sandals Resorts International and ATL Automotive in Montego Bay, Jamaica will work to re-build Marley's Land Rover and place it back in the Bob Marley Museum.
Adam Stewart, CEO of Sandals commented, "It is a tremendous honour to help return such an extraordinary automobile to its former glory. This project has been a long time in the planning and we can't wait to play our part in history -- there are few people in the world who Bob Marley hasn't inspired through his music at some point, so it is only right that we ensure his legacy continues to inspire for many years to come."1
Bob Marley's Defender requires a complete re-build, beginning with a disassembly of the entire vehicle and then replacing all of the worn out pieces with new Land Rover parts. Eventually the SUV will be in running condition and stationed at the museum dedicated to his life in the Capitol city of Jamaica.
