For many Americans and drivers in the Tuscaloosa, Mountain Brook, and Birmingham areas when somebody says "road trip" it instantly triggers memories about greasy fast food, cramped legs and showers that are few and far between. That was nothing like the trip recently taken by a small team from a British PR group and Land Rover employees where they were out to prove the ruggedness and comfort potential of a new Land Rover model.

The goal was to travel from a Land Rover facility in England to the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The catch? A 5288 lb. airstream trailer would be in tow.

The trip was being attempted in the luxurious Range Rover Autobiography. For those who don't know this is the special edition Range Rover limited to a small production run. The V8 engine promised to haul occupants over any terrain, and amenities like dual passenger iPads with keyboards, inlayed teak wood and fold-down tray tables can be found in the cabin.

The owner of the PR firm that set up the trip, Ben Samuelson, commented on the trip by saying, " It didn't matter what we, or the weather threw at it -- it just did the job we asked of it without question, while truly cosseting us with its extraordinary luxury and refinement. Half way through Spain, we encountered horrendous side winds …but the Range Rover's Trailer Stability Assist meant that any sway in the trailer was dealt with before it ever started."1
