Our blog has been on hiatus for a little bit, so now we have a little bit of catching up to do. Land Rover has released some very innovative new vehicles in the past couple of months, and none of them got more attention than the all-electric Land Rover Defender that was unveiled at this year's Geneva Motor Show.
Officially called the Land Rover Defender All-Terrain Research Vehicle, this new model was a totally fresh approach to the iconic Land Rover Defender. As the brand's first all-electric vehicle, audiences were delighted to see that this could be the first step towards getting a EV into the production line of new Land Rover models.
In order to create this new research vehicle, engineers at Land Rover took an existing Defender model and gutted everything under the hood. They removed the entire engine and replaced it with an electric motor that was powered by a very large lithium-ion battery. When the underpinnings were all set, this shocking new Defender was able to push out 94 horsepower and an astounding 243 pound-feet of torque with the help of a single speed transmission.
Here at Land Rover Birmingham we hope that this is just one small steppingstone on the way to creating an entire line of fuel-efficient Land Rover models. You can experience all the luxury and performance of the vehicles in our inventory of new and used Land Rover SUVs by scheduling a test drive. We are located at 3000 Tom Williams Way Irondale, AL 35210. We hope to see you soon!
