Hopefully by now you have heard that Land Rover introduced some new Range Rover Diesel Hybrid prototypes. What you may not know, is that the day these models were introduced to the public, several more of them set off on a 10,427-mile Journey.
This was part of an event to test the capability and long-term efficiency of these new Land Rover drivetrains. The trip began at the Land Rover HQ in Solihull England and would follow the "silk road" all the way to the headquarters of the parent company Tata Motors in Mumbai, India. Well we are very pleased to say that the Trip came to a close earlier this month with all the drivers in good health after only taking 53 days on the road.
53 days may sound like a lot, but you must consider that the team had to cross 13 countries and follow local speed limits as well. These burly SUVs were able to achieve a 36-37 mile per gallon average over the whole trip. That number falls short of predicted estimates but unkempt roads, changes in weather, and elevations of up to 17,648 ft. above sea level has a tendency to do that.
During the trip the drivers logged 15 punctured tires, and four broken windshields, but otherwise the vehicles were in perfect health when they arrived in Mumbai.
Big marketing efforts like this one are a clear indication that it is only a matter of time before electric and hybrid options become available in the lineup of new Land Rover vehicles.
