While you’ve likely heard the lore that surrounds the Land Rover Discovery, the capability of this luxury SUV is something you have to experience to appreciate for yourself. At Land Rover Birmingham, we’ll get you behind the wheel to experience the Land Rover Terrain Response System for yourself so you can feel and understand the differences between each mode. Just visit our dealership in Irondale and check out our new Land Rover models today!
Normal Mode
In normal drive mode, you’ll have an average ride height and damping, with typical engine response and normal shift points for a smooth ride and predictable handling on highways and paved roads.
Snow/Sand
Both sand and snow are particularly shifty surfaces, where sinking in is actually the key to maintaining forward momentum. In this drive mode, the Land Rover Discovery will allow for some wheel slip but intervenes before you can sink too far and risk getting stuck. It also alternates power between all four wheels to help keep you moving forward.
Mud
Unlike snow and sand, you absolutely do not want to let the wheels lose traction on a muddy surface. Once slippage begins, it is incredibly hard to regain forward momentum, which is why this drive mode focuses on low-down torque delivery evenly across all four wheels, and will cut power to any wheel that slips so it can’t dig in and cause you greater grief.
